Biking to Stoned From The Underground 2014

Thursday, August 21st, 2014 | Activities, Music, Sites | 2 Comments

From my point of view Stoned From The Underground is pretty much the closest thing to the perfect festival. It’s still small, it’s in the summer, you can park next to your tent and you have a lake to swim in just next to the camp ground and stages. And obviously it’s stoner, doom and psychedelic rock driven – just my cup of tea.

For various reasons it seemed a good idea to ride by bike to the festival. I love riding the bike, it gets you close to nature and your limits if you want to. The scenery of Hessen and Thüringen really blew my mind, I did not know how beautiful the rural eastern parts of Germany really are. Hainich National Park and its Rennstieg were awesome. Savage, dark and mysterious.

Anyway, here are a few shots of the bike trip and the festival.

I hope I can make it again next year. This time I will not start near Kassel, maybe Frankfurt, so I can approach from the south west to see even more of beautiful Germany.

Wild camping – my maiden voyage.

Tuesday, December 3rd, 2013 | Activities, Gadgets, Photography, Sites | No Comments

I have recently upgraded my camping gear, so did a friend of mine, and now it’s pretty much winter proof (no more freezing while sleeping at Freak Valley‘s windy camp site!). We both wanted to test drive our stuff in the wild, so we figured a night’s out around the freezing point should do the trick. Weather forecast said it was gonna be dry with the lowest temperature around nill. Perfect!

The site was nice, mossy ground yet slightly slopy and the highway is in pretty close proximity which resulted in faint constant noise. Nevertheless the trip was awesome, we had clear skies and a few beers in the wild. I guess this wasn’t the last time, even though the occasional Brokeback Mountain jokes were on us in the office the next day. Ahh, sweet envy 😛

Visiting Phantasialand Brühl

Saturday, September 3rd, 2011 | Activities, Reviews, Sites | 1 Comment

It’s been over a decade since I visited this local amusement park – last time I’d been there the Mystery Castle freefall tower was brand new – the interwebz tells me that was 1998 🙂

Basically it was a journey into childhood – almost all attractions seem to not have changed a bit since I was a kid. A fun day, but beware if you are too socio-phobic – there a humans out there…

Btw, the sole reason we went to that place was because I invited a friend of mine to go there as a birthday present. Five years ago. Hrhrhr!

Sunday, June 19th, 2011 | Activities, Reviews, Sites | 1 Comment

Last year we stayed for one night to test our new camping gear (@see Germany is Beautiful – Aggertalsperre). Test run was fine, camp site was pretty awesome. I decided to invite a few friends over for the Whitsun’s holiday 2011. Here a some impression. Reservation for 2012 is already done, 15 people may attend. So if you want to be in make sure you call in early 🙂

Germany is Beautiful – Aggertalsperre

Sunday, May 23rd, 2010 | Misc, Reviews, Sites | 5 Comments

As some of you might know I’ve been abroad for 7 month, visiting various places and getting to know a lot of interesting spots far far away countries have to offer. Though talking about Germany’s sites doesn’t ring a bell. This is quite a pity and about to change, because me and my wife a.) want to get to know local picturesque places (1-3h driving perimeter) and b.) we are test-driving our new camping gear.

First location: Aggertalsperre Oberbergisches Land, NRW

I “found” this location playing around with Google Earth. First I wanted to visit the Brucher Talsperre, but me and wify couldn’t find a suitable camping ground there. After trying a few more locations (Lingesetalsperre, Kerspetalsperre) I fell back to old habits and googled “kierspe camping”. On of the results was “Campingplatz Stubenrauch“, residing just at the shore of the Aggertalsperre. We decided to drive there, check it out and stay if it was okay, head back home otherwise. We decided to stay and had a fun afternoon, got visited by Rob and Myri, had a pretty good dinner, received great hospitality, used clean and working facilities and popped our tent’s cherry.

Now we are back, the tent is dry and clean, stowed away in the cellar and I can’t wait to get back couching to enjoy some quality PS3 time. 😛
