Oops, I did it again!

Monday, March 16th, 2009 | Misc | 1 Comment

To cut a long story short: A friend of mine and myself went for a drink on Friday, we got pissed pretty hard and at some point I smoked a cigarette. I can only remember that I managed to inhale three times, the rest of the fag just died away chatting. I didn’t like it, and I did not start smoking again, but I promised him to blog about it. Well, yeah, blog about my epic fail! 😉

Guess the 8bit NSDs are another 254 days away… bugger! At least I can be pretty sure not to fall into relapse completely due to the fact that smoking gave me nothing desirable any more. It seems like this was just a glitch…

Smart- vs. Dumbphone

Thursday, March 12th, 2009 | Gadgets, Misc, Tech-savvy | No Comments

I just bought myself a new phone. A dumbphone. And I am totally happy with it! 🙂

My old cell’s contract is running out and I was (and still am) struggling to find a decent new phone. I am not into iThings, I don’t care about androids nor communicators – I just want a phone.

So I decided to get a smartphone as a replacement for my old cell to use it at work (hey, it’s free!) and buy myself a dumbphone for private usage. So I did.

My new private cell has 8 megabyte (non-expandable) storage, a 1.3 megapixel camera and bluetooth. That’s it, no high res (touch)screen, no GPRS, no PIM, just a phone.

Okay, we got this straight, I bought a device that I can use as a phone (any iThing people out there who already envy me?!) – there is just one more thing using a dumbphone I want to tell you about: the device’s battery life. I bought the phone on Saturday and charged it. I had to recharge it on Sunday. Just like your iThing? Well, I meant the Sunday the week after! 8 days without recharging is amazing. I really like my dumb devices. I already got an eeepc 901 that makes me quite happy, now this phone. I guess the days of better, faster, more expensive are finally over – I like devices that make sense! (okay, one exception: my PS3 – Resident Evil 5 should be in my mailbox by tomorrow! 😛 )

Here is the device I am talking about: Sony Ericson T303 Shadow Black

eclipse Subversive oddity: don’t commit on a tag – unless it is not a tag!

Monday, March 2nd, 2009 | IDE, Java, Tech-savvy | No Comments

After using the recent eclipse Ganymede release with the provided Subversion connection (@see eclipse IDE Subversion integration – a pain every single time) for some time I came across an oddity that I blogged about on my company’s blog.

eclipse complains about you trying to commit on a tag even if you are not working on a tag (who does, anyway?) – you just have to use subversion keywords in your package names to get a nasty nag screen every time you try to commit your work. Why should you do that anyway? Get the answer to this question and the explanation why this oddity happens reading this article at codecentric‘s blog (provided in both English and German).
